Abia is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria and It is the first state in the alphabetical order of states and capitals in Nigeria. It was created on 27th of August 1991 under the government of General Ibrahim Babangida. It takes its name from the acronym of four of the state’s most populated regions which are Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo. The capital of Abia is Umuahia while the largest city and commercial center in Nigeria is in Aba. Its slogan is Ọ̀hà Chineke (God’s own State). There are 17 Local Governments in Abia out of the 774 Local Government Areas that constitute or make up the Federal Republic of Nigeria namely; Aba North, Aba South, Arochukwu, Bende, Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Isuikwuato, Obi Ngwa, Ohafia, Osisioma Ngwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Umu Nneochi.
